Prior Lake is the largest lake in the South Metro area. With almost 1200 acres and 21 miles of shoreline the lake is perfect for swimming, boating, water skiing, skating and fishing. Two public beaches and two public boat launches give the entire community access to the lake. Wagon Bridge marina offers full service with a gas dock and Captain Jack's Restaurant, with boat and road access is a favorite local gathering spot.
While there are many businesses in the area, including Mystic Lake Casino, the majority of the residents commute to their employment in the Metro area, approximately 20 miles to the north. There certainly is no shortage of things to do in and around Prior Lake. In addition to the lake and park activities you may also be interested in Canterbury Downs (horse racing), Valley Fair (amusement park) and Dakota Sport and Fitness Center. Prior Lake Schools Prior Lake-Savage schools continue to rank among the best in the state. As the 2008-09 school year began, approximately 7000 students were enrolled in the districts’ nine schools. There is one high school, with approximately 1750 students. There are 2 middle schools and 6 elementary schools. An additional elementary school, Redtail Ridge is scheduled to open for the 2009-2010 school year. With a wide variety of sports and activities offered, it is not just the star performers that excel, as students of all abilities are able to participate.
