About the Savage, Minnesota AreaThe City of Savage is located south of and adjacent to the Minnesota River just southwest of Twin Cities Metro. Savage is not known just for its natural beauty but also for its role in Minnesota history and especially as the home of the famous race horse, Dan Patch. The Dan Patch Historical Society maintains a wealth of information about the horse and the town of Savage itself. The business district has seen numerous upgrades and improvements in recent years and its proximity to the highway 169 bridge over the river makes this community a favorite with the Metro commuter. Savage is home to two unique and valued environmental phenomena: Eagle Creek and the Savage Fen Wetlands. The City of Savage has worked hard to preserve these natural treasures. Parks, Recreation and EntertainmentThe City of Savage Park System consists of 20 parks and totals over 280 acres of both active and passive use areas. Other park areas include the Eagle Creek Aquatic Management Area and Murphy Hanrehan Park Reserve. The city operates and maintains a variety of athletic fields, including soccer fields, football fields, softball and baseball diamonds. Click here for a listing of Savage Parks. In addition to the city parks, there are several regional parks in the area. Spring Lake Regional Park has 354 acres of undeveloped land, Murphy-Hanrehan features 2400 acres of undeveloped land plus hiking, mountain biking and horse trails, Cleary Lake Regional Park provides skiing, water sports and golf on 1,045 acres and Historic Murphy’s Landing offers a unique look at Minnesota life in the 1800’s. Schools and Churches in SavageSavage is served by two school districts: Burnsville-Eagan-Savage Schools and Prior Lake-Savage. Prior Lake-Savage Schools continue to rank among the best in the state. As the 2006-07 school year began; approximately 6,550 students were enrolled in the districts’ nine schools. An additional elementary school, Redtail Ridge is scheduled to open for the 2008-2009 school year. With a wide variety of sports and activities offered, students of all abilities are able to participate. Burnsville-Eagan-Savage Schools is a large school district with approximately 2400 students in its high school (10-12). There are 3 junior high schools and 10 elementary schools located within the district.
